Not only will this movie lead to endless debate, one can endlessly debate just what is to be debated!

It's an independent film that is actually getting some distribution, it's currently in theatres.
YOU HAVE to see this move, so does soulfilms, (I don't mean to ignore others who post here, but I know SF and Shatzy the most).
I would like to see a few threads develop about this movie, as one will surely not suffice, but first others must see it.
James Spader is in it. (I hope I got his name right)

hmmmm... based on SF's link, i can already assume
some of the tangents this thread will be on.
i dunno if thats a good thing... especially
considering the generic overtones from the miss
america thread... et al.

yes.
now i have a better game.... it could be possible
to 'speculate' a mock debate on the movie via
the information posted by SF (from the link).
since i haven't seen it... and SF hasn't seen it,
it would be interesting to see a thread of issues
spawning from the 'suggested' details.
sound good?

i think it would be interesting to see what develops,
then compare that to how ya feel after viewing
the movie itself. i think that discussing the
'summary' is expounding upon the same information
millions of other people receive... only, chalking
it up to general debate and whatnot.
i like this idea because it gives a chance to
be somewhat objective about the 'summary' and
its key issues before adding other extraneous,
environmental bias (i.e. -- the movie).
alex... since you will view this thread prolly
before anyone else... why don't you start it off?

I wish you guys could see it first.
I checked out one of the reviews, and the person reviewing complained that a certain aspect of the movie was not clearly drawn out.
This person must have fallen asleep.
They must have gone for popcorn because one of the appeals of the movie is the scene where James Spader explains to the young girl why she "cuts".
Wow.
Check, your local movie guides, the movie just might be playing near you.
The only thing I knew about the movie was the brief synopsis I read just before seeing it which I will share with you.
The Secretary
104 minutes - rated R
One of the best American indie films of last year (2002) is the extremely original, funny and sexy SECRETARY, a workplace comedy like no other. The story is simplicity itself. Maggie Gyllenhall plays Lee, a troubled girl just released from a mental institution and eager to get a job and escape her vacuous suburban family. She applies for a secretarial position at the office of a mysterious lawyer, E. Edward Gorey (James Spader).
At first the work seems quite normal but soon, in between typing, filing and coffee-making, Lee and Mr. Grey embark on a more personal relationship together, crossing lines of conduct that would give any human resources director the vapors.
(I love that part about the vapors)
